About me

Mathieu van Wezel

My career in healthcare started in 1985 in a nursing home. More than forty years later I am still working in healthcare. Alongside care itself, another thread has always run through my working life: an interest in technology, automation and practical solutions.

Healthcare, technology and curiosity.

Over the decades I have worked in several areas of healthcare: nursing-home care, mental healthcare, night care and home care. I have also spent many years as an entrepreneur.

When I come across something that I believe could be more practical, clearer or smarter, I like to find out whether I can create a solution. Looking back, healthcare, entrepreneurship and technology have been connected throughout much of my career.

1985 · Starting in a nursing home

My healthcare career began in 1985 in a nursing home. In 1992 I qualified as a healthcare worker.

1992–2006 · Mental healthcare and an early digital record

From 1992 I worked at several mental-health organisations, including more than ten years in acute psychiatry. During this period I developed a digital client-registration system — an early predecessor of today's electronic client records. Colleagues used it in practice and I also trained staff to work with the system.

2004–±2018 · Zorgbemiddelingsbureau Quick

In 2004 a new chapter started with Zorgbemiddelingsbureau Quick. For almost fifteen years I worked on matching self-employed healthcare professionals with healthcare organisations, client relations, recruitment and the day-to-day business.

I needed software that matched the way the agency worked, so I developed my own online system: Freelance Plan. I was responsible for functional design, testing, implementation and user support. Development continued for roughly eight years.

Technology kept running alongside

Technology also remained important outside my software projects. From 2007 to 2017 I coordinated technical services at the Scouting Vierdaagsekamp, including power, networks, computers and radio systems. From 2013 to 2015 I also installed personal alarm systems in clients' homes for STMG Arnhem.

Icare · Night care, planning and smart sensors

At Icare I worked in the Ambulant Night Care Team as a healthcare professional and also worked on client planning and staff rostering. I took part in the Smart Night Care pilot, using sensor technology.

Since 2020 · Home care

Since January 2020 I have worked at Viattence Home Care. I also work independently in several areas of healthcare, so I remain closely connected to day-to-day practice.

ZorgFactuurPro and MakeMyInvoice

This practical approach also led to ZorgFactuurPro, invoicing software for self-employed healthcare professionals. While developing it further, I started asking why the same simple approach should be limited to healthcare. That led to MakeMyInvoice, now being developed for different industries and international use.

FreelancePlan returns

Freelance Plan was once the name of a single software project. Today FreelancePlan.nl is the place where my different projects come together: past developments, current projects and new ideas whose final direction is not yet known.

After more than forty years, the same curiosity keeps coming back:

How does something work? Why do we do it this way? And could it be simpler or better?

Sometimes it remains a question. Sometimes it becomes a project.

More than a CV

FreelancePlan is not a list of every position I have held. It is mainly the story of ideas and projects that emerged along the way — often where practice, healthcare and technology meet.
